Electrolysis | IPL Laser Light Hair Removal

Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method.

Electrolysis works over time to permanently destroy the hair follicle. With each treatment a percentage of growth will not return. A tiny probe is inserted into the hair follicle releasing a measured amount of electrical current into the follicle, thereby destroying unwanted hairs individually. Although this method may seem archaic, it has proven to be effective for the past 100 years. New technology allows us to modulate the intensity and duration of the current, achieving a much improved accuracy in destroying the follicle as well as improving the comfort level for the client. IPL Laser Light Hair Removal is a permanent hair removal method

IPL hair removal works over time to permanently destroy the hair follicle. With each treatment a percentage of the treated area will not return. The treatment handpiece is placed on the skin and a pulse of light is released. The light penetrates the skin without damaging the tissue and it looks for Melanin (pigment or color) in the follicle. Melanin absorbs the light which is transformed into heat which coagulates or dehydrates the hair follicle.

IPL can be compared to electrolysis because both methods use heat to destroy the follicle. The hair treated with IPL will shed over a period of a few days where hairs treated with electrolysis are removed immediately after they are treated. Electrolysis is slower and often more costly given the fact that each hair is treated individually. IPL laser light can treat several hundreds of hairs in less than a minute.

IPL Laser Light needs melanin, color in the hair, therefore, hairs without color need to be treated with electrolysis.

Combining IPL Laser Light and Electrolysis

In many cases electrolysis and IPL Laser Light is combined on the face for a more effective and faster outcome. Body areas are almost always treated with IPL Laser Light due to the length of time it would take to treat the area with electrolysis. The number of treatments needed as well as treatment time and cost is always less with IPL Laser Light than with electrolysis for body areas.
